Armstrong Powerhouse presents a Pro sound pack for the class 47 diesel locomotive.
How is a Pro sound pack different to a standard one?
If a sound pack is classed as being Pro, it means that most, if not all, of the sounds used have been recorded using state-of-the-art equipment at an especially organised recording session. This allows us to acquire the exact kind of sounds we require to create the best experience within the simulator. In the case of this pack, all sounds were recorded from 47402 at the East Lancashire Railway. As well as excellent audio quality, Pro packs include separate cab and exterior sounds because as anyone who's been in the cab of a locomotive knows, there is really quite a difference! Finally, all efforts have been made to make sure the sounds are as realistic as possible. One way we have achieved this is by employing realistic volume levels which means that the volume differential between idling and full power is prototypically large so as to make you really feel the power of the engine when it revs up.
What is exactly featured?
Ticking spirax valve
Engine start up/shut down
Carefully engineered engine rev-up sounds which vary depending on how much you move the power handle
Subtle traction motor hum can be heard in the cab as you pick up speed
If the power handle is shut off sufficiently, the engine note will cut out as per reality with only the winding down turbocharger audible
User operable two-tone horn using the space-bar and 'B' key
Compressor
Separate cab sounds
Bogie run sounds to give the sensation of movement
Brake release/application sounds
Brake rub
Brake squeal
Flange sound
Cab instrument sounds
Jointed track sounds (Co-Co 3-axles)
Realistic sound fading effects
Accurate volume levels. This means the quietest sounds are as quiet as they should be in relation to the loudest as per reality.
During the installation process, these sounds will be applied to all default liveries (BR Green/Blue/Large Logo, InterCity Swallow, Rail Express & Triple Grey) contained within the DTG European Community Asset Pack and also the class 47 included with the DTG Liverpool to Manchester & DTG West Somerset Railway routes. Below is a video demonstrating the pack:
As well as the sounds, a scenario is supplied for the DTG Great Western Mainline route which sees you drive a Freightliner class 47 between Oxford & Tilehurst on a container train bound for Southampton. A second scenario is also included for the DTG London to Brighton route which sees you drive a cross country service between Clapham Junction & Brighton in 1999. Both scenarios use the relevant timetable of the year to create the most realistic experience possible. The London to Brighton one even includes scenario specific EFX effects to make sure you hear reverb effects underneath bridges and in tunnels where they are not present in the route itself. The perfect way to test these sounds out!
