Armstrong Powerhouse presents a Pro sound pack for the class 220/221 diesel electric multiple unit.

How is a Pro sound pack different to a standard one?

If a sound pack is classed as being Pro, it means that most, if not all, of the sounds used have been recorded using state-of-the-art equipment at an especially organised recording session. This allows us to acquire the exact kind of sounds we require to create the best experience within the simulator. In the case of this pack, the majority of sounds were recorded from 220005 at Central Rivers depot. As well as excellent audio quality, Pro packs include separate cab and exterior sounds because as anyone who's been in the cab of one of these units knows, there is really quite a difference! Finally, all efforts have been made to make sure the sounds are as realistic as possible. One way we have achieved this is by employing realistic volume levels which means that the volume differential between idling and full power is prototypically large so as to make you really feel the power of the engine when it revs up.

What is exactly featured?

Engine start up/shut down

Change in engine sound when reverser is placed into forward or reverse

Distinctive engine rev-up

Classic high pitched turbocharger sound as more power is applied

Traction motors can be heard in the cab as you accelerate and brake

User operable two-tone horn using the space-bar and 'B' key

Separate cab sounds*

Bogie run sounds to give the sensation of movement

Brake release/application sounds

Flange sound

Cab instrument sounds

Jointed track sounds (Bo-Bo 2-axles)

Realistic sound fading effects

Accurate volume levels. This means the quietest sounds are as quiet as they should be in relation to the loudest as per reality.

*Please note that the dedicated engine cab sounds are very low-frequency (bassy) so to experience the full effect, we recommend this pack is used on speakers with a subwoofer.

During the installation process, these sounds will be applied to all liveries contained within the DTG CrossCountry Class 220 and the JT Voyager Advanced. Below is a video demonstrating the pack:

As well as the sounds, a 55 minute scenario is supplied for the DTG London to Brighton route which sees you drive two class 220s between Brighton & Latchmere Junction (Clapham Junction) in 2002. To ensure the most realistic experience possible, it uses the timetable of the year it's based in which means you won't be stuck for something to look at it on this busy route. The perfect way to test these sounds out. Please note that this scenario is only available for the JT Voyager Advanced.

This add-on is supplied in download format only.
